Key Largo Hotels For A Florida Beach Holiday

By April Briggs

Florida is among the world's most popular beach holiday destinations. Tens of millions of people make their way every year to the Atlantic and Gulf Coast beaches fronting the Sunshine State's sun-drenched beachfront communities. The Florida Keys offer a long line of these idyllic holiday spots, and that's why Key Largo hotels are usually full at any given time of the year.

The City of Key Largo, located on an island of the same name, is at the northern end of the upper Florida Keys in Monroe County. The thing that makes it stand out amongst a whole string of similar sunny beach communities is its length and the long string of unbroken beaches. Not to mention the proximity to both Miami and the Everglades.

It's very popular as a base for vacationers dividing their time between Miami's urban pleasures and the 1.4 million acres of natural beauty and wildlife in the Everglades National Park. There's also the awe-inspiring John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. This is why this place is called the world's diving capital.

As for the hotel, most travelers focus on nightly rates, amenities and availability. But another thing that is equally important is the location. Gaining a better understanding of the layout in relation to the mainland and the coast may be helpful.

This coral reef of an island is long and thin, and the Overseas Highway enters through Florida City into the city's middle through a bridge and turns to take a parallel route alongside the beaches. Another bridge on Card Sound Road enters from the mainland into the northern end. Most of the popular lodging and hotel choices are to be found on either side of the Overseas Highway, close to or on the beach.

So anyone driving in here looking for a place to stay should use the highway, and not enter from the Card Sound Bridge at the north. Visitors will start bumping into all the top beachfront lodging choices immediately at the point where the highway turns after entering the city. It's possible to further pinpoint the location based on the itinerary.

For example, the Everglades National Park is more easily accessible as people drive further along the Overseas Highway as it heads southwest. But for divers and families interested in coral reefs and the reconstruction of a coral reef inside a gigantic aquarium, it would be easier if they were closer to the city's middle or north end. This would be where the highway turns and runs parallel to the beaches after entering the city.

As for amenities, most properties here offer everything from refrigerators to microwaves, cable and Wi-Fi in-room. Free coffee or tea is also quite common, along with continental breakfasts. An outdoor swimming pool, free parking, laundry, room service and a concierge should be available to help make the stay easy and comfortable for guests. Regardless of a visitor's choice of hotel, it's a given that a stay in Key Largo is going to be a highly memorable and fun-filled beach holiday.
