By Jony Mozen

For a country to stand and to protect its sovereignty, it must have a well-equipped army and infrastructure that can be used to repel the enemy in case of an attack. The wars that were fought in the past made the government of that day to come up with great structures, which are still standing up to this day. The article below will unveil the history Fort Myers Florida has as recorded.

This historic site was built in the city of Florida. According to the history of Fort Myers, the native Indians wanted to sojourn in that location. This was a good site for the protection of that location from constant aggression from the Indians and strategic in driving them out. This location was also good for business since the main source of transport for goods was carried out via the sea. Therefore, it was a suitable place.

The American army built this stronghold during the American and the Indian wars. The Americans and the native Indians of America were fighting for land. This competition escalated once the whites were increasing in population and the Indians on the other hand became threatened for losing their land to the Americans. The garrison was then built to serve this purpose.

The core responsibility of the garrison was to offer protection and a place for putting the weapons for the soldiers. In a war, it is dangerous to keep your weapons without a proper protection against your enemies because they can use them against you. Therefore, the stronghold was the ideal place to keep the equipment because it gave an assurance that the Indians could not access them.

The soldiers of the American army were highly advantaged by this building because they were assured of a place to seek refuge in case the war does not favor them. The high walls and the strong gates will make it difficult for their enemies to ambush them successfully. The structure of the garrison would also enable them to strike their enemies while inside the walls.

The fortress was put in a place where there is an abundance of food. Before the building of this garrison, the Indians had wanted to put up villages in that exact area. This is because it had sufficiency in food that could have supported their livelihoods. The war was all about fighting for survival on the part of the Indians because the Americans were pushing them to desolate places.

When the soldiers, the original owners and builders of the fort stayed in it, they were in charge of protecting it. It is obvious that when a war is fought damages do occur in the process. When the damages are not repaired then the fortress is likely to be brought down during the fight. Therefore, the builders of the fortress were responsible in keeping its walls strong from collapsing.

The garrison is located in a good geographical location with a good atmosphere. The geographical sites around the garrison make it a perfect place to go for business and to stay. One of the reasons that led to the war for that land is the serene environment and its strategic location in natural resources. That locality had a potential to generate enough revenue for the government.
